I don’t get many photos printed anymore. I scroll through them on a small screen instead, which isn’t the same. Having an actual album in your hands feels like such a luxury.

Once a year I download my Instagram piccies into a little square soft cover album. I go to the cheapest photo book site, a lot of them do it, some of them can even interface with Instagram and automatically load one square photo per page. There’s no need to write text within it. It’s quick. It’s simple. It’s clean and crisp.

I don’t print photos from other social media – not Facebook or Twitter.  Instagram is where I put the visual stuff.

I’ve just got round to doing my 2015 Instagram which should arrive soon. What I love most about doing this is that it’s a visual overview of what grabbed my attention last year. There’s definitely a pattern in what I find notable, beautiful and funny and it changes each year based on where my life was focused.

These little books are a small and tangible reminder of an instant snap shared, that would otherwise not be savoured beyond that one fleeting moment.

Not three days ago I was standing in the house Shakespeare was born in. I walked the streets of Stratford Upon Avon all day under skies threatening to rain. I went to his daughters house where I ate from a mulberry tree over 150 years old, grown from a cutting from her fathers garden.

Not two weeks before that, I was watching Benedict Cumberbatch deliver an epic Hamlet. His Hamlet (I hope). I’ve only just written up my journal from that performance, but won’t write it here. I don’t know how to summarise those 12 pages and as the show is still in preview and tweaks are ongoing, it doesn’t serve any purpose.

The week before that I saw Richard II at the Globe itself in Bankside. Tremendous. The way the Bard did it himself.

And now, first day in America, I wander through Central Park to rest the senses and happen upon a line of people waiting for free tickets to the very last performance of the Public Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park season – Cymbeline. I’m on holidays, so what’s an hour or two standing in the queue to me? The people around were lovely and chatty and once they knew I was here for the first time, they were full of recommendations for the creative arts they encouraged me to see or do before leaving. I loved that and am very grateful.

It was a lovely walk back up to the Delacorte Theatre (in the middle of Central Park) for the 8pm start. Just on sunset. Gosh the cast have some fun with this. The opportunity to play multiple roles – or indeed the one role pretending to be another one – was seized with both hands. Terrific pace, playing to the crowd in the best tradition of Shakespeare and those voices! God the company can sing.

If you’re ever in New York – and they are playing at the Delacorte – I’d encourage you to queue for the tickets. It’s sponsored by donations, so all 1800 seats are free.  By the people. For the people.

A late finish would normally have little old me a bit nervous about a walk back to the hotel – but check out my body guards. Never safer 🙂

Shakespeare wrote some of the most extraordinary lines that – even 399 years after his death – we can say off by heart. The truest of them all for me, especially this trip seems to be,  that “all the world’s a stage”. I seem to find my way amongst those who love him wherever I’ve gone.

Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre – London

For God’s sake, let us sit upon the ground
And tell sad stories of the death of kings

Richard II

And you can do just that at the Globe theatre – for the princely sum of a fiver. Groundlings pay just £5 to see a play at the Globe so if you have a strong constitution and can take whatever weather old Blighty throws at you, it’s the way to go.

Tickets for seats – lets actually call them what they are – “the MOST uncomfortable wooden benches you don’t really sit on, you perch on, and all your blood runs down to your toes til you feel sick and giddy and overwhelmed with vertigo” – cost quite a bit more, upwards to £50 depending on how close your level is to the stage.

Currently Richard II is playing at the Globe and it’s very good. There’s actually lots of humour and I thoroughly recommend it if you have the time. Also playing (but I haven’t seen) are Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It – two of my faves playing through til September but not on every day. Tickets go quick, so do book – their online site works well. The Globe is really easy to get to – it’s a lovely walk along the Thames from Waterloo Station. Try to get there an hour at least before hand to have a pint at the pub next door before the play.

Make sure you rent a cushion for £2 and you can rent a “seat back” if you’re on a middle pew and don’t have the back of the section, or the front balustrade, to lean on for a change in position. Also note, if it’s a hot day – the back rows of the seated sections catch and hold a lot of the heat and it gets muggy – very muggy. So bring in a bottle of water. There is an intermission – make the most of it to stretch your legs.

Photos are allowed before and after a performance, but obviously not during.

Treading the boards at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

The Globe is one of those magic places to make a pilgrimage to. A play here is quite something – it’s performance to its very core. It would be hard to find actors playing more up to the crowd than in this arena, and of course the history, the restoration of the building itself and the playwright who’s name it bears all draw a crowd for good reason.image

If you get a near it – and you will because it’s so central – take the time to go into the National Gallery at the top of Trafalgar Square. It’s free and it has PLENTY of seating right in front of some of the most celebrated paintings OF ALL TIME!!!! Feel free to read that again in Kanye’s voice.

Even if art isn’t your “thing”, you will know what these paintings are and by whom. You will. Trust me. You will have heard of these artists – because they’ve been referred to in modern culture so many times – THAT’S how very good they were.

My main man Van Gogh is here – but not his Starry Nights which is my favourite (not only because of the Doctor Who episode with that magnificent speech by Bill Nighy that was superb!) but his Two Crabs which is my second favourite work of his. His Sunflowers is also here – more well known than his other paintings and certainly the focus of the tat in the gift shop. But for mine, Two Crabs is glorious. The colours get me every time. He painted this the year before he took his own life.

image

Van Gogh – Two Crabs and Sunflowers

Works by Degas are here – his beautiful dancers.

image

Degas – Ballet Dancers

Monet and Manet – side by side even so you can get the differences straight 🙂 Renior, Dürer, Constable, Talouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, Cezanne…honestly. This is the who’s who of the age AND it’s only one section of the gallery.

While away an hour or two. Sit and sketch from some of the very best. Have a coffee in the cafe and come back for another few hours. It truly is a magnificent place – even the ground you walk on is beautiful.

everdaysexism, how to sum up a life, misogyny, obituary, sexism, values

The Australian newspaper’s obituary for the late Colleen McCollough is a disgrace.

Two days ago we lost one of our most celebrated female authors. Throughout her life, Ms McCullough:
– earned a living as a teacher, librarian and journalist
– spent ten years researching and teaching in the Department of Neurology at Yale Medical School
– her novel the Thorn Birds has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and
– she was awarded a Doctor of Letters degree by Macquarie University.

And this is how our national paper leads the remembrance and celebration of her life, her achievements and her contribution to our nation…

2015/01/img_1255.jpg

Fuck whoever wrote this.
Fuck whoever approved this to print.
Fuck journalism standards in Australia.
Fuck how this paper/reporters/society values and quantifies the entire life of a woman – distilling it down to how she looked while she lived it.
Fuck them all sideways.

relaxation, Work

What a shame the weekend is only two days long. Saturdays for errands and some chores. Sunday for the rest of the chores and as much of the good stuff you can cram into a few hours. Add in at least one catch up with family and/or friends and the time for doing hobbies is seriously compromised.

There needs to be a third day. A day of unwinding from the chores and the errands. A day for a movie. A day for some art. A day for reading, while lying on the lawn in the dappled shade filtered by a tree. A day to nibble from a small plate of antipasto and sup on some fruity wine. But instead, we have to go to work. It just doesn’t seem right, does it?

I love this site – it’s a drop of the bigger picture every time I see it. When your life seems consumed with spinning your wheels doing all the “haves to do” – a reminder of the important stuff is a gift.

“Every page was once a blank page, just as every word that appears on it now was not always there, but instead reflects the final result of countless large and small deliberations. All the elements of good writing depend on the writer’s skill in choosing one word instead of another. And what grabs and keeps our interest has everything to do with those choices.”

I’m looking forward to moving in to my own place – but the thing I’m most excited about is painting one single wall in a room.  That’s all.  It’s the only thing that would make me happier in the place.  Strange by true.  It’s currently a happy and bright blue colour – a cross between Valleys Diehard and French Royal – but it’s too bright for my idea of a bedroom.  My perfect bedroom is dark and cosy – so paint will be the order of the day.  I don’t want fancy shmancy, no tricky techniques, just a deep and calm colour.  I was tossing up a purple, but think I’ll go a dark storm grey … kinda like this…how exciting. 🙂

attitude, spirit, Tattoo

20120521-224748.jpg

I’ve been thinking about getting this tattoo for a while. I need something to help remind me to respect myself – my thoughts, my feelings, my wants and my needs. I find I let them (me) take second place quite often.

I think there are a lot of people like me out there. We have no say at work because we’re the ‘drones’. We go along with social plans and ideas because its not polite to make waves – and really is it a big deal? And of course we all get brought up to accommodate family – no question – because we love them. Fair enough.

I need something to remind me that my say isn’t always secondary, even though:-

1) I get scared. I’m terrified of making a wrong choice so I dither and am unsure.
2) I worry too much – thinking things through an infinite number of “if this, then that” scenarios.
3) I retreat from conflict. I don’t want to offend or upset anyone.
4) I compromise – or delay agreeing 🙂
5) I don’t act on my ideas because I fear judgement and derision.
6) I get depressed about feeling “pushed into” a position that ultimately my behaviors allow.

So, I want a visible and constant sign to let me know that my choices are ok and that my say counts. My decisions made for me might disappoint others, but that’s not my problem. I should stand my ground.

“Courage is a kind of salvation” – I’m hoping Aristotle was right.

Art, creativity, think

Another Banksy got wrecked in Australia this week – the parachuting rat bit the dust.  I’m not sure Banksy would care really.  Graffiti in itself is meant to be transient.  A fleeting glimpse of something a little more special decorating the ugly functional walls we build to trap ourselves.

I call his work art because it makes me consider the reality of life I might not normally see or understand.  It’s poignant.  It’s simple.  It packs a punch.  It’s much more than glary colours and funked up lettering.

This is art.  Long may it reign.

Today was Mothers Day down under. The second Sunday of May. It’s a beautiful drive out to where my parents live – takes around an hour and a half. Coffees in keep cups, pressies and flowers on the back seat and we hit the road early. We time it so we’re just in time for a cuppa…once we get past the big puppy.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks my mum is the sweetest woman in the world, but I’m the only one who’s right 🙂 She must be amazing to have raised such fine kids – ha!

Not a bad subject to try to get my eye in on.  Gorgeous George.  Well, sort of.  I’ve broadened him somewhat and his nose is too bulbous, but I’ll keep on practising.  I know I’m very rusty – and it’s something I want to get back into.

The hardest thing to do is to not tear it up along the way – my “internal critic” is a vicious bitch at the best of times.  Imma gonna slap her silly for as long as I can.

modern day lyrics

honesty, music, truth

I wake up to the same radio station each morning.  Same bat time, same bat channel.  I like the announcers – they make me smile.  But I’ve got to be honest and say that I’ve become discouraged with the current flavour of music.  It’s not just that the station has their “high rotation” hits they push through each peak session.  (Skrillex again anyone?)

It’s that the hits of today seem soulless.  The lyrics are misogynistic at worst, self centred at best – from both male and female artists.  Most of the middle ground is dross.  Take this Nicki Minaj (spelling?) for example.  Of all the inane primary grade poets the english (?) language throws up, these songs in particular disappoint me.

I don’t mind the electronic funk beat, the overbearing bass, even the techtronic vocals. I draw my line at the trilling rubbish.  I get the humour in the LMFAO boys and I freely admit to never having got into video so much – except a late night drink watching RAGE.  But I’ve got to wonder – how many of these modern day products actually even write their own words?  A lot of it seems very hollow.

drawing, lost arts, photo, preparation

One of the many things my mum has taught me is a love of handmade things.  It doesn’t matter how “professional” they are in their execution, the only thing that matters is it’s made with love by someone thinking of gifting a piece of their time/love/skill/supplies to another.

To this end, Mum thought a funny gift for Christmas one year was some material, needles and thread for me to learn how to embroider.  Hilarious woman 🙂

So one day a month, I go with my mum to her group afternoon session of crafty ladies.  We sit and stitch (lots of different types of needlecraft) and I listen.  The women are amazing.  All full lives of families, friends, travels, work and most importantly, they talk about their plans for the future.  I love listening to them.  They make me laugh, they help me learn and I always have a better sense of perspective for my life when I leave.

I walked past these windows quite a few times before I saw the detail added to them. My lesson – a little more focus in the here and now and I would see the kind of depth I’m craving to find in my boring daily humdrum.

There are a million gifts of beauty for us all. Made and left where we might find them if we open our eyes. How many pieces of wonder do you walk past each day?

fashion, photo, red carpet, style

Oh I do love a red carpet.  It’s where the fabulous meets the notorious with some star power razzle dazzle in the mix.  Fashion shows are about the clothes, red carpets are more about the horse wearing them.

This year’s Academy Awards was a little disappointing – with nothing really blowing me away.  The ladies definitely brought the colour this year, with no real standout theme.  I suppose white was the most popular, but it’s difficult to “pick a winner” when the looks range from girly-flutter through to hard edged couture.

The best dressed women are the ones most comfortable in their skin.  Who dress for their shape and know this is them.  I find little attractive about the ones trussed up to project something they are truly not.  Young things dressing too old (bless them).  Old things dressing young (thanks for the laughs!).

This Oscars was the wrong person in the wrong dress.  I think they should have a swap meet and ‘do-over”.

Sandra Bullock – safe, but never offensive.

Pene Cruz – old school glamour. I like this colour.

Natalie Portman – in spots. On the red carpet. In SPOTS.

Ms Meryl Streep. FABULOUS!!

Another beige feathery thing. Horrid.

Kate Mara – aka Vampire’s Bride – she’s about to go postal and attack the photographer.

God this is pretentious. The only person who can wear a cape has a name that ends with *man.

I didn’t like this style on Nicole Kidman, and I don’t like it now. Sooky-lala doesn’t make a fashionista.

Is it me? Diaz always looks grubby. Another beige feathery thing and points off for the strap marks.

Octavia Spencer is fabulous. She knows what suits her, and she wears it gracefully. Top marks.

Sheezh. Why try so hard? Angelina’s already won all the everything. Ridiculous and actually detracts from the dress.

Jo Lo attempting another “shock and awe” – missing the mark.

My earbuds save me on a daily basis. They shield me from unwanted conversations. They help me get under the loud phone conversations, deep and meaningfuls and total dross blabbed all over my bus. They help me sidestep and zigzag the slow walkers and meandering finger pointers out shopping.

They are my cloak of invisibility. My tardis to some of the best and most fantastic day dreams I have. I love my earbuds. Because they give me the one thing that helps me get through the day – music.

Sometimes I surprise myself. I am the most UN-pink, UN-girly-girl, UN-glittery woman you will ever meet. So when I’m drawn to something so unlike myself, it makes me take a step forward to figure out why.

These lovely cards by Deb at Bella Paperie are gorgeous. I think they are beautiful. I spent three hours of tape, glue and glitter with a group of people happy to have a go. In doing a craft class, you place your trust in the teacher. There’s no risk of failure because the ‘recipe’ already works. You get told what to do so you don’t need to think (much!). And most importantly – NO-ONE SEES THE ORIGINAL.

It’s nice to do something out of your comfort zone. Dive in and see why it’s never taken your fancy before. I’m still not really into the whole pink thing, but I might allow myself to like more bling. 🙂

beauty, fashion, photos, red carpet

Oh, I do love a red carpet….

Dianna Agron – fabulous colour. Striking. I Like it.

Dianna Agron in a Carolina Herrera dress.

Brooke Anderson – tv presenter…do not like the massive clutch, it’s too stark … Maybe if she had a black accent on the dress?

Renee Bargh playing Zena the Warrior Princess meets Troy. Very busy outfit – 6 ‘looks’ in one.

Berenice Bejo in a Ralph Lauren dress. Red carpet staple style.

Emily Blunt – the only one in green this year? Very fresh.

Julie Bowen – safe with maximum coverage in the top, but lovely colour.

Haaaaaaaaa!! Rose Byrne putting one HUGE McDonald sized hoof wrong.

Dear me, Rose Byrne – this is an Elie Saab outfit (who I adore) but why? This is straight out of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Jennifer Carpenter looking for someone…I mean something to eat. Very fierce looking.

Jessica Chastain in one of a few thin strap cami dress…it’s a bit Elly-May for me. Very basic.

Emilia Clark in feathers…lots of feathers, and tulle….very fussy.

Gorgeous George and Stacy Keibler in Marchesa.

Glenn Close

Glenn Close. Work it baby.

Kaley Cuoco from the Big Bang Theory. Bazinga. Very light peppermint colour.

Ms Davis in Marchesa. Smokin’

Viola Davis looking FABULOUS!!

Tina Fey in Versace.

Judy Greer wearing an Aussie designer.

Hooray! Judy Greer in a Collette Dinnagin outfit.

One of my favourites – Amber Heard in a dress by Zac Posen. The cutout work is stunning.

I like this dress a lot – Temperley is the designer. Sarah Hyland is really developing a lovely, young, look. Lea Michelle, take note.

Beat that!

Jolie is wearing a Jenny Packham outfit…she just ‘is’, isn’t she.

Yikes!

Jane Krakowski in an Antonio Berardi…lamb/mutton Numero Uno. This bodice belongs on a Anna Paquin or such. Very aggressive dressing.

Jessica Lange – old school hollywood…except in daggier glasses. A little ‘I don’t care, I’m fabulous anyway’?

Jane Lynch from Glee – fantastic dress. Terrific colour and a great cut for a tall lady.

Julianna Marguilies in Calvin Klein. WAY better than the Globes nightmare.

Julianna Marguilies. Star.

Jayma Mays – this looks lovely. This shoulder line was a popular style.

Jayma Mays from Glee in a Reem Acra dress.

Massive improvement on the outfit for the Globes – same designer though.

Melissa McCarthy in another Badgley Mischka design – much much better than the Globes outfit. The draping is terrific.

Maria Menounous – tv presenter – this dress looks like a tight fitting cami…another thin strap number.

Lea Michele in a Versace design.

Would someone please tell Lea Michele that she’s fast turning into the joke that only she takes seriously. Those poses – crikey!

Penelope Miller – I don’t know who she is, but this dress looks like it’s skirt lost it’s “umph”.

Gretchen Mol in a L’Wren Scott outfit – and I loooooove it. Very reminiscent of a Cate Blanchett/Uma Thurman number. One of my faves for the night.

Nancy O’Dell from Entertainment Tonight. Any excuse to dress up I suppose :). Classic style.

Kelly Osbourne – much better than the Globes outfit. Better cut. Better sleeve. Better.

Busy Phillips – bwahahahahahahahaha. The hippy sit in is that a way… What do they think, I wonder…

Natalie Portman in a Giambattista Valli design. Gorgeous. Classic Hollywood.

Guiliana Rancic – tv presenter. That’s strike two lady – the Globes and now…maybe needed the hair up.

Amber Riley from Glee in a Badgeley Mischka design. Cute.

Naya Rivera from Glee – who needs bling when you have a dress like this?

Shaun Robinson – tv presenter. Popular colour. Did Madonna wear this in her ‘Material Girl’ video?

Odd angle for this photo of Maya Rudolph – not so flattering look at the dress by Neem Khan.

Maya Rudolph – this photo does her much more justice…

Zoe Saldana – this is a Givenchy design. Looks great from afar.

Zoe Saldana – up close looks like a glitzy kaftan with a work out tank underneath.

Kyra Sedgwick – lamb/mutton for Mrs Bacon? *pun intended*. Not a big fan of the cut out dresses – people look uncomfortable in them. I think this colour washes her out also.

Does anyone know why Ashlee Simpson is here? No? Me neither. Another Jenny Packham number.

Octavia Spencer looks terrific again. Fabulous hair up do.

Emma Stone going all black and formal. Short dress now for the big sweeping long number for the Oscars?

Emma Stone in an Alexander McQueen.

Meryl Streep – she rocks the grey tones. Awesome.

Tilda Swinton has found her mojo – or a good stylist who likes Lanvin.

Tilda Swinton – this is two good outfits in a row. Fab.

Sofia Vergara in Marchesa.

It’s only when you see side-on that you notice how far the dress angles at the front. Excellent for stashing the Sizzler salad bar for later, but not here….

Betty White – I think she raided the Golden Girls wardrobe. Bless.

Kristen Wiig – not sure about the choker with the neckline of the outfit.

Wiig’s dress is a Balenciaga design.

Michelle Williams – Valentino.

Michelle Williams in a lovely Valentino number.

Ariel Winter from Modern Family – a bit of an older look than her Globes dress. Nice though.

This is gorgeous. Shailene Woodley in a L’Wren Scott dress.

Ooh, I’m a sucker for ribbon. I can remember sitting at my Nanna’s table learning how to make crepe paper rose bouquets. I must have been about 9 years old. My Mum does every kinda material craft, and me? I’m a beginner at more craft types than you can poke a stick at with too little time to practice them all… Oh, and I am sucker for ribbon.

There is something glorious about a blank, and beautiful, new book. Lined pages, blank pages, graph pages – it doesn’t matter. They are all opportunity made real. A gorgeous cover, lovely ribbon, maybe a charm or a bead… Delicious. Smells good enough to eat.

Oh I do love a red carpet! The “Big 3” began today with the Globes, next is the BAFTAs and then the Academy Awards.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Golden Globes.

* All photos pinned via news dot com, taken by someone with a bag full of fabulous gear and works the job of my dreams.

Kristen Wiig – a bit boho and “I’m not trying too hard” for me.

Jessica Biel with her hair down too. This is very fru-fru and feels like I’m watching Little House of the Prairie

Sarah Hyland. This looks very fresh and young, but I think the black belt “olds” it up too much.

Classic glamour from Diane Lane.

Katharine McPhee in another beige outfit. The bodice shape accentuates the sharp lines at her shoulders.

Jodie! Jodie! Put on some BLING!!

Those that know me know I HATE HAIR BOWS on babies – and alice bands on celebrities goes in this category. Michelle Williams I’m looking at you.

I think this makes Maya Rudolph look heavier than she is. I think it would have done with a graduated colour.

Jessica Chastain. This is beautiful up close – the detail is gorgeous. I think the distant view is a bit stark. I would have put colourful accessories with this..

Disaster. Shiny and shapeless – the neckline, sleeves…wrong. Such a shame. Julianna Margulies usually dresses much better.

Yippee kayai, Meryl. You can wear what you want.

The classic fishtail by Elle McPherson.

Paula Patton in a brighter fishtail.

Purple and green, eh Brooke Anderson? hmmmmmm

You’re trying too hard, Kat Kramer. Tone down the make up or the hair.

*adjusts sunnies* Bright, very bright, Maria Menounos.

Another straggly hair number from Kyle Richards. It’s a red carpet ladies, not a casting call for the Bold and the Beautiful.

Mireille, two halves don’t make a dress. Why two shades? I don’t know either. Odd.

Imagine Kelly Osbourne’s dress in emerald green, with a shorter skirt and a scoopier neckline. Imagine the hair blonde, not grey. This is what I wore to my Gr 12 formal in 1987. I know – I am ahead of my time.

Morena Baccarin. I don’t know who she is either, but she’s got her dress on back to front.

Nicole Richie – a little boho, a little bling. The clayton’s Kate Hudson.

This is a lovely dress for a young actress. Gorgeous colour on Ariel Winter from Modern Family.

This dress is by Badgley Mischka and I don’t like it for Melissa McCarthy. The colour isn’t flattering and neither is the cut. There needs to be more form up top.

This is a great dress on Octavia Spencer from The Help. The detail through the bodice gives some structure and bling and the sleeves are very flattering.

What in God’s name is this, Buffy? A tie die ode to spring break?

HOLY TOLEDO! Now this is red carpet dress. Sofia Vergara looks fantastic.

Ms Davis – a little less leg, honey. But very nice.

Rooney Mara – she doesn’t look comfortable in this. And that says it all.

Jessica Alba – stunning. The beading detail is gorgeous and she wears this with so much confidence. Terrific style.

JLo eat your heart out! Evan Rachel Wood looks terrific. Shame about the naff neck tatt from behind.

One of my favourites for this event. Emma Stone. Stunning colour, terrific makeup. Fab-u-lous.

Why does Charlize always opt for a weird cut of dress? Why?! The top half is lovely, and the bottom half like a first year design student let rip.

Mary-j Blige. Not a big fan of the feathers, but the dress style, makeup and hair are rockin.

How many two tone dresses can one woman wear. *sigh* Ms Winslet does look good though – the school marm look suits her.

Smile GOD DAMN IT! What more do you want, FFS.

This is Atelier Versace. Awesome. I think the tattoos really set it off.

Very nice. Safe, but nice safe. Not boring safe. Just. You’re on notice, Natalie.

OMG – is Reece going all bad girl now? This is a little too Best Little Whorehouse in Texas for my liking.

Best. Dress. Mrs. Urban. Has. Worn. For. Ever. Period.

Salma Hayek gets extra points for dying her hair the same colour scheme as her dress.

Tilda Swinton makes me smile. And I love that she’s a fan of David Bowie too! Seriously, this is a terrific outfit. She looks great.

Laura Dern actually pulls this colour off. No-one else who wore green did. And she won a Golden Globe, so that proves it.

This dress by J. Mendel is stunning. A bigger bracelet or a clutch … something missing, but ethereal Clare Danes again..

Cute couple. And you have no idea how much it kills me to write that 😉

THE BOYS from Modern Family !!!! GOLD STAR.

Another classic stunner dress on Kate Beckinsale – red carpet staple. Looks fab.

Dress by Reem Acra and Neil Lane. I like it. No, really.

This is Heidi Klum’s back. It doesn’t look right, does it?

Someone had to do it – a cross between Halle Berry’s immortal Oscar dress and Mrs Banderas grey number with the cane. Sorry – it had to be said.

Dianna Agron – wearing a dress by Giles Deacon. Not sure she looks comfy…it looks like she’s suckling a tryffid.

Still looking good, Mr Pitt.

Awwww - the little princess. Wouldn't we all like to dress up like this for one day?
And deep down, if you were truly honest, you would like to dress up like this – just for one day.

Today, I watched the documentary on Ayrton Senna. That weekend at Imola was beyond shocking. 1 May 1994. I was expecting the doco to paint him only positively and there is a little glossing over in there – but that doesnt mean whats presented isnt true – its just not complete. He was much loved worldwide, and the hope and pride of Brasil.

Senna was an awesome driver – particularly in wet conditions. Watch the first lap of Donington 1993 and youll see why. His stats are incredible – some still stand. Easily the best of the best. In the interviews I remember seeing while he was alive, he always answered honestly. Although I dont recall seeing so many where he mentioned his faith as was shown in the doco, it was still there in the little I remember from the early 90s.

His arch-rival – and doesnt there always need to be one? – was Alain Prost. Like Jensen Button and Lewis Hamilton, Schumacher and everyone, Ayrton the Upstart pushed the Professors buttons. It was through their competitiveness that I began to see the politics behind the sport. Considering their animosity at times, Alain Prost was a pallbearer at Sennas funeral and is still a trustee of the foundation set up in Sennas name. That fact surprised me. Gentlemen at the end who realized they brought the best, and perhaps the worst, out of each other in the fight to win.

Awesome DVD. I highly recommend it.
