A new hope for Star Wars

This weeks announcement that George Lucas is selling the Star Wars universe to Walt Disney doesn’t faze me at all.  I’m in the “Han shot first” camp, so in my eyes, Mr Lucas sold out a while back.

I spent today unpacking more boxes and came across my Star Wars library. I haven’t added to it for a while, so there’s some gaps for sure, but I was surprised how much I remembered about each new twist in the Universe. I loved Timothy Zahn’s stories and the X-wing series was a joy.

My hope for the future is that Disney doesn’t cash in with a cartoonish fluff piece that doesn’t mesh with the novels already written around the original trilogy. ** For the benefit of young players, that’s episodes 4-6, not 1-3.

Some of the best sci-fi writers around have fleshed out generations of interaction, plot twists and tragedies faced by the characters we all know and love – I hope Disney will respect those.

And in case any Disney peeps see this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t make “Vector Prime” until I’m ready. I bawled my eyes out for days when I read that – I couldn’t bear to see it happen.

Kthx, Laurene

Star Wars Family Car Decals

attitude, movies

I’m not sure which one I am.  Mostly, I’m a Jedi – Yoda-like with sage advice and teachings.  My workplace treats me like a Stormtrooper pawn when I’d much prefer to be a shoot-to-kill Boba Fett.  I can speak bits of a few languages – C3PO.  And can hotwire machines like R2D2.  And as much as I AM a Princess, for one week every month, I’m Chewbacca and could tear your arms clear off of your body.

Clooney, movies

I forget how much I love the movies.  There always seems so much else to do, to pay for, to run around spending time on than to sit and escape for a couple of hours.  Every year I say I’ll go at least once a month, and every year I’ll realise I’ve seen maybe 2 movies, tops.  Apparently, 2 hours and $20 is too big a luxury to give myself.  Silly girl. For the record, today I went to the movies because I had a few hours to wait for my car to be serviced.  I saw The Descendants with Gorgeous George in the lead.  Sigh.  He does pick a good story to tell.  Beautiful.  I think the experience was only enhanced by the fact that it’s “tight-arse Tuesday” and my fellow cinefiles were of the aged variety.  They noted all the things I would otherwise have missed – “Hawaii’s green, isn’t it?”…”That’s not nice language at all”…”He’s the baddy”….”I like their shirts”.

Oh I do love a red carpet! The “Big 3” began today with the Globes, next is the BAFTAs and then the Academy Awards.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Golden Globes.

* All photos pinned via news dot com, taken by someone with a bag full of fabulous gear and works the job of my dreams.

Kristen Wiig – a bit boho and “I’m not trying too hard” for me.

Jessica Biel with her hair down too. This is very fru-fru and feels like I’m watching Little House of the Prairie

Sarah Hyland. This looks very fresh and young, but I think the black belt “olds” it up too much.

Classic glamour from Diane Lane.

Katharine McPhee in another beige outfit. The bodice shape accentuates the sharp lines at her shoulders.

Jodie! Jodie! Put on some BLING!!

Those that know me know I HATE HAIR BOWS on babies – and alice bands on celebrities goes in this category. Michelle Williams I’m looking at you.

I think this makes Maya Rudolph look heavier than she is. I think it would have done with a graduated colour.

Jessica Chastain. This is beautiful up close – the detail is gorgeous. I think the distant view is a bit stark. I would have put colourful accessories with this..

Disaster. Shiny and shapeless – the neckline, sleeves…wrong. Such a shame. Julianna Margulies usually dresses much better.

Yippee kayai, Meryl. You can wear what you want.

The classic fishtail by Elle McPherson.

Paula Patton in a brighter fishtail.

Purple and green, eh Brooke Anderson? hmmmmmm

You’re trying too hard, Kat Kramer. Tone down the make up or the hair.

*adjusts sunnies* Bright, very bright, Maria Menounos.

Another straggly hair number from Kyle Richards. It’s a red carpet ladies, not a casting call for the Bold and the Beautiful.

Mireille, two halves don’t make a dress. Why two shades? I don’t know either. Odd.

Imagine Kelly Osbourne’s dress in emerald green, with a shorter skirt and a scoopier neckline. Imagine the hair blonde, not grey. This is what I wore to my Gr 12 formal in 1987. I know – I am ahead of my time.

Morena Baccarin. I don’t know who she is either, but she’s got her dress on back to front.

Nicole Richie – a little boho, a little bling. The clayton’s Kate Hudson.

This is a lovely dress for a young actress. Gorgeous colour on Ariel Winter from Modern Family.

This dress is by Badgley Mischka and I don’t like it for Melissa McCarthy. The colour isn’t flattering and neither is the cut. There needs to be more form up top.

This is a great dress on Octavia Spencer from The Help. The detail through the bodice gives some structure and bling and the sleeves are very flattering.

What in God’s name is this, Buffy? A tie die ode to spring break?

HOLY TOLEDO! Now this is red carpet dress. Sofia Vergara looks fantastic.

Ms Davis – a little less leg, honey. But very nice.

Rooney Mara – she doesn’t look comfortable in this. And that says it all.

Jessica Alba – stunning. The beading detail is gorgeous and she wears this with so much confidence. Terrific style.

JLo eat your heart out! Evan Rachel Wood looks terrific. Shame about the naff neck tatt from behind.

One of my favourites for this event. Emma Stone. Stunning colour, terrific makeup. Fab-u-lous.

Why does Charlize always opt for a weird cut of dress? Why?! The top half is lovely, and the bottom half like a first year design student let rip.

Mary-j Blige. Not a big fan of the feathers, but the dress style, makeup and hair are rockin.

How many two tone dresses can one woman wear. *sigh* Ms Winslet does look good though – the school marm look suits her.

Smile GOD DAMN IT! What more do you want, FFS.

This is Atelier Versace. Awesome. I think the tattoos really set it off.

Very nice. Safe, but nice safe. Not boring safe. Just. You’re on notice, Natalie.

OMG – is Reece going all bad girl now? This is a little too Best Little Whorehouse in Texas for my liking.

Best. Dress. Mrs. Urban. Has. Worn. For. Ever. Period.

Salma Hayek gets extra points for dying her hair the same colour scheme as her dress.

Tilda Swinton makes me smile. And I love that she’s a fan of David Bowie too! Seriously, this is a terrific outfit. She looks great.

Laura Dern actually pulls this colour off. No-one else who wore green did. And she won a Golden Globe, so that proves it.

This dress by J. Mendel is stunning. A bigger bracelet or a clutch … something missing, but ethereal Clare Danes again..

Cute couple. And you have no idea how much it kills me to write that 😉

THE BOYS from Modern Family !!!! GOLD STAR.

Another classic stunner dress on Kate Beckinsale – red carpet staple. Looks fab.

Dress by Reem Acra and Neil Lane. I like it. No, really.

This is Heidi Klum’s back. It doesn’t look right, does it?

Someone had to do it – a cross between Halle Berry’s immortal Oscar dress and Mrs Banderas grey number with the cane. Sorry – it had to be said.

Dianna Agron – wearing a dress by Giles Deacon. Not sure she looks comfy…it looks like she’s suckling a tryffid.

Still looking good, Mr Pitt.

Awwww - the little princess. Wouldn't we all like to dress up like this for one day?
And deep down, if you were truly honest, you would like to dress up like this – just for one day.
